Difficulty in ARK: Survival Evolved affects the levels of creatures in the world as well as the quality of loot drops. It is not entirely straightforward, however, as this page shows. Instead of fixed difficulties such as EasyMediumand Hardthe difficulty is expressed using a number currently between 0. This number is known as the Difficulty Value and is controlled by the DifficultyOffset option. The Difficulty Offset is a floating point number with a value between 0. Note, however, that setting the Difficulty Offset to 0.

The default value for DifficultyOffset is 0. The recommendation for the configuration of the maximum creature level is to just set DifficultyOffset to 1.

Note that the maximum level of Tek Creatures as well as Wyverns and Rock Drakes is even higher than the maximum creature level of the other creatures. After the change of your GameUserSettings. Finally, the Loot Scale is simply the Difficulty Value expressed as a percentage: [2]. Although it's called difficulty, having a higher one makes your life harder if you are naked, but it may actually make the mid or end game easier as better loot crates as well as better tames are available, therefore increasing the effects of taming efficiency.

See the following chart, a higher difficulty increases the gap between the wild and perfectly tamed creatures. Sign In. Jump to: navigationsearch. Clarification Please". General Discussions.

According to the recent blog post, Wildcard revealed that they are slated to release a game tweak that will make changes to their current structure decay settings. They further explained that they are changing some criteria on what they can consider as a viable minimum base or set of structures adding that these will rapidly decay if the soon to be implemented criteria are not be met.

According to Wildcardtheir aim for this looming game tweak is to reduce this so-called structure spamming issues i. Furthermore, the developer added that they intend to dish out several more adjustments to this spamming issue as they try to resolve this.

As mentioned, the latest Community Crunch also announced that the first wave of servers known as Small Tribes will go live today on all platforms. These servers will only have a maximum of six players as alliances will not be allowed. However, rates on these servers will be buffed as it was stated that its taming, harvest, and experience rates will be tripled adding that these will not be affected by Evolution Events. Additionally, its maturation, gestation and egg hatching rates will be doubled on the said server.

There's also a 50 percent reduction on its mating interval once these servers go live. Wildcard pointed out though that these servers will have a trial run of 60 days and if these are well-received by the game's player base, the developer will keep it up and running.

Nevertheless, if the population turn out is very low, Wildcard will be replacing it with a new game mode and server type donning the same test period.

Wildcard is not willing to reveal the configurations they are using on their servers. People have been asking over twitter, email, forums, reddit and support tickets, but these requests remain unanswered at all times.

I can understand why they don't want to reveal this kind of information though. That being said, if you do not set a specific configuration in one of your configuration files, the game assigns a default value.

The same applies if you set 0 or gibberish for some of the configuration settings, the game falls back to the programmed default by Wildcard. There's also a few settings however you MUST configure or your game does not start up at all.

That's pretty much the only deviations that are known for sure. Everything else is either running on the default game settings, or WildCard has some specific scripts running to overwrite the behavior.

An example is the maximum armor on blueprints and weapons.

Some stuff that might drop on your servers is not allowed to exist on Official servers. Sadly, I have no idea how you can copy that behavior. Perhaps with a mod I suppose, if it exists. Stuff I recommend not to fiddle with is the stat multiplier for wild dino's, tamed dino's etc. Unless you know what you're doing, these can unbalance your game tremendously. In the end though it all depends on how you want your game to be running. Before going public with your server, I recommend to run it a while alone and see how everything looks and feels.

If you're satisfied, open it up for public. Start new topic.

About this Guide and Getting Started This guide is being constructed as a quick set of notes to the new, small, time-limited ARK PVP hopefuls, but should contain information useful to just about anyone as I address each key point of getting established. This is NOT a guide for players looking to spend upwards of 7 hours per day playing ARK, those looking to join or become an Alpha tribe, or for players seeking to tame the largest tames.

The purpose of this guide is to demonstrate what can be done in a man tribe, playing intelligently with reasonable goals on Official Servers. The guide will assume you have at least a basic understanding of how ARK and Survival games work in general. So, in order to Get Started, There will be 3 major steps: 1.

Choosing a Server Selecting an appropriate official server is a very important step. If this is your first time really experiencing ARK, I highly recommend a server running The Island signified in the name.

Server Configuration

Zero population is fine to learn on, but I actually recommend starting with a low to moderately populated server, just so you get a realistic feel for how server population will impact your gameplay. Ping should be as far below as possible, while still having the words Official and The Island in the title. If you are comfortable with ARK and want to experience more challenge, you may choose a Center, Ragnarok, Scorched Earth, or Aberration server, but, each comes with its own difficulties not expressly covered in this guide though we will mention excursions later.

In the first few hours of play, pay attention to the global chat to look for problematic players or news of other tribal developments to get a feel for how busy the server is. If things seem too intimidating or an alpha tribe has a formidable presence, now is the time to choose a different server before becoming too invested. Leveling up Your immediate concern should be acquiring engrams by leveling up quickly.

Do the usual ARK start by punching some trees until you have wood, gathering some loose stones from the beach, and crafting the basic tools as well as spears. Use these to lay waste to beach animals while you gather an inventory full of basics. You may choose to make a small hut or wander, but, I highly recommend meeting up with friends and at the very least laying down sleeping bags in the same general area close to one of the spawns.

A bed doesn't take long, but should be an early objective. Some people like to tame a raptor or other mount at this point, but, I generally recommend holding off on tames until you are established.

Choosing a Base Location How do you choose a location for your base? I'll primarily be using the Island as an example, but, most of these ideas hold true. This should put you somewhat close to metal nodes, give you a reasonable proximity to more advanced things like obsidian and crystal, keep you off the PVP-dangerous beach, and, should work as a platform for moving into the next phase of the game, getting established.

Getting Established 1. First Established Base I consider the first level of being established to be a fully enclosed stone base with metal tools in hand. Get a forge going quickly, and a smithy I often build these without walls to protect them, just to get going. Once you have a few metal ingots cooked up, you can make metal tools, which are many times more efficient than the stone ones you have been using.

With metal tools, I simply craft stone walls, ceilings, foundations, etc, as I collect the materials, which lightens the load in the field and makes working more efficient. Now, if you've followed this guide, you have a base in a decent location, and are ready to move on. This would be a good place to discuss: 2.
